Vegetable-tanned reindeer skin
Reindeer skin from Kero Leather AB is vegetable-tanned, with tanning agents from trees with high tannin content. These trees grow on plantations in South America and therefore do not cause depletion of the rainforests. The reindeer skin is about 1 m² (11 square feet) in size, and has a thickness of 0.5mm – 1.0 mm. excellent for accessories and ready-to-wear clothing.
The reindeer skin is bought in the Nordic countries from Sámi communities that have practised reindeer herding for several centuries. So the reindeer skin is locally produced and bears a certificate of origin that it is a Nordic animal.
The process of tanning skin into finished leather takes roughly 2 weeks. The first step in the process is to clean the skin from salt and slaughter remains. Then the fur is removed with the help of lime which causes the hair follicles to detach from the hairs. Then follows tanning, which is a means to conserve the skin, and which is done by removing the organic binding agents in the skin and replacing them with tanning agents from wood species such as mimosa.
After tanning, the skin is dried and placed in intermediate storage where it is sorted to be dyed in different shades and qualities according to customers’ orders.

Semi-aniline vegetable tanned reindeer skin with water repellent treatment
Vegetable-tanned, soft reindeer skin, mostly from smallish adult reindeer, which gives an area of between 9 and 14 square feet and thickness of between 0.6 and 0.8 mm. Semi-aniline finish which does not conceal the natural variations in the leather surface. In addition, the leather surface has been treated to reduce its sensitivity to water.
Naturally tanned or vegetable tanned skin with water repellent impregnation for long durability.

Aniline vegetable tanned reindeer skin
Vegetable tanned, soft reindeer skin, mostly from smallish adult reindeer, which gives an area of between 9 and 14 square feet and thickness of between 0.6 and 0.8 mm.
Area: 9 - 14 square feet
Thickness: 0.6 to 0.8 mm
Standard colours we stock: Naturally colourless and Rosto dyed and impregnated.

Finished vegetable-tanned reindeer skin
Vegetable-tanned, soft reindeer skin. Mostly from smallish adult reindeer, which gives an area of between 9 and 14 square feet and thickness of between 0.6 and 0.9 mm. Dyed and finished with pigment.
